Mohammed ZaidThis June, I had the privilege of joining some of the MENA region’s most promising digital changemakers in Berlin, Germany for the MENA Digital Summer School 2025 — and let me tell you: it was a game-changer.
Organized for young entrepreneurs, innovators, and impact-driven minds, the program brought together a vibrant mix of people working in art, culture, journalism, education, civil society, advocacy, and tech — all with one goal: to harness digital transformation for social good.
Why Berlin? Why Now?
Berlin is more than just a city — it’s a global hub for creativity, policy, and innovation. Over the course of the program, we explored this firsthand through exclusive field visits, networking sessions with industry leaders, policy-makers, and media professionals, and hands-on workshops led by top-tier experts.
From navigating the future of digital journalism to exploring AI in education and culture, every session challenged our thinking and inspired bold new directions for our projects.
The Power of a Shared Vision
The most inspiring part? The people. I met incredible innovators from across the MENA region — each with unique stories, challenges, and dreams. We weren’t just sharing ideas; we were building cross-border collaboration that I know will live far beyond the summer school.
Our own project — LYBOTICS, Libya’s national robotics initiative — was met with amazing interest. I had the chance to present how we’re empowering thousands of young people with STEM and robotics skills to prepare them for the digital economy and help shape a peaceful, innovative future for Libya. The feedback and connections I gained were invaluable.
Coming back to Libya, I’m more committed than ever to scale our work with LYBOTICS and open doors for more young people to engage in the digital world — not just as users, but as creators, leaders, and problem-solvers.
